UFC 259 is finally upon us and the third big UFC event of the year promises to be a good one, with three title fights in one night. The action takes place this Saturday night live from Las Vegas, with Jan Blachowicz taking on Israel Adesanya for the Light Heavyweight title belt, while Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson face off for the Women’s Featherweight Championship. The third title fight pits Petr Yan against Aljamain Sterling for the UFC Bantamweight Championship.
UFC 259 returns to Sin City this weekend for a huge night of MMA action that includes three title fights, headlined by Jan Blachowicz defending his light heavyweight championship against middleweight titleholder Israel Adesanya.
Going into that match, Adesanya is the lighter of the two, hitting 200.5 pounds at weigh-ins on Friday morning. He was handed a box of pizza by his cornerman thereafter, so he’s intent on putting on some more pounds. And well he should, nobody’s ever won that title at this weight before.
Blachowicz was 205 pounds (the limit) at weigh-ins, but says he’ll be at 220 pounds by fight time.
Nunes, both the UFC women’s featherweight and bantamweight champ, is the heavy favorite against Megan Anderson. Anderson is only 0.5 pounds lighter, but the odds are still stacked against her according to most — as Nunes is the best to ever do it in women’s MMA.
