ABOUT LAST GAME: How Frankie Collins filled Michigan’s PG void in tournament upset

SEIDEL: How did Juwan Howard, Michigan pull off comeback? They grew up a little

Game notes: Michigan is in the Round of 32 again; that’s six straight tournament appearances while winning a game. Hunter Dickinson (21 points, four blocks) was key in the 75-63 win over Colorado State on Thursday. Eli Brooks added 16 points, seven rounds and six assists as Michigan dominated the second half 46-27 to pull off the comeback over the higher-seeded, mid-major Rams.

Tennessee did not have as much trouble in their first tournament game, easily dispatching Longwood after a close start. The game was 20-17 with about 10 minutes left in the first half, then the Vols went on a 9-0 run as part of a larger 34-12 run to end the half, 54-29 in favor of Tennessee. Watch for Kennedy Chandler and Santiago Vescovi, the Vols’ sharp-shooting leading scorers, who put up 13 points and 18 points, respectively, vs. Longwood.

The lone common opponent the teams have is North Carolina. Michigan lost Dec. 1 by 21 to UNC thanks, in part, to Hunter Dickinson’s foul trouble. The Vols beat the Tar Heels by a similar margin, 17 points, on Nov. 21.

Winner of this game faces the winner of 7th-seeded Ohio State vs. second-seeded Villanova.
