The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that St. Patrick’s Day revelers should avoid parties and other gatherings and consider holding virtual celebrations because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Attending gatherings to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day increases your risk of getting and spreading COVID-19,” the federal agency says on its website.
“The safest way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year is to gather virtually, with people who live with you, or outside and at least 6 feet apart from others,” the CDC advised.
Wednesday marks the second consecutive year that coronavirus has hampered St. Patrick’s Day celebrations across the country.
In 2020, as the pandemic was just taking hold in New York City — and the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade was postponed as bars and restaurants were shut down for indoor service the night before.
This year for the holiday, city eateries are open at 35 percent capacity and the parade will be streamed online.
